Book Review - Wolf's Bane by Ash Krafton

Wolf's Bane (Demimonde, #3)

I really enjoyed the first two books in the series, and was eager to jump back into Sophie's world, where vampire's and werewolves abound. We do get back into the business of the demivampires in this third installment, but the book veers into entirely new territory... where rockstars and werewolves collide. As for Sophie, that's where things become stranger than ever.

Sophie, an advice columnist, and an oracle to the demivampires, is still longing for her lost love, Marek. As he began to evolve from a demivampire, and into something much more sinister he slipped away, leaving her lost and confused... and powerless. What point is it to be the oracle if you can't even save the one you love? She has now lost Marek forever... or has she? There may be a way to save him, but it could destroy her, and everything she's ever loved.

Now, at a rock concert, Sophie is summoned by the rock star Dierk Adeluf. Backstage, things get hot and heavy pretty quickly, and before she realizes what's happening she is bitten by a werewolf. But this is all part of a larger plan, as yet another supernatural force has determined her to be useful to their cause. As the days pass, her responsibilities toward the demivampires are put on hold. But Dierk stays right beside her, waiting... and wanting her to become his queen.

Sophie is surrounded by secrets and deception, and figuring out who to trust is only half the battle. She's trapped between worlds, and still sorting out who her true friends are, all while enduring changes happening from her werewolf bite. It's a lot to take in, especially since just a few years ago she was unaware of the supernatural elements all around her. But she's not ready to give up on her true love, Marek. The problem is, she might not have a choice.

This third installment has a certain appeal, especially if you love rock star romances. I was hoping for a story a bit more in line with the first two. Still, it shows Sophie's continued evolution in the world she is now very much a part of. Questions are answered, and loose ends are tied up in a satisfying way!
